For Kathy, becoming a driving teacher started with a love of the road. "I used to be a sales representative," she explains, "and I loved driving." So when she wanted to start a family, she trained as a driving instructor so she could stay on the road without the long trips away.
"Once I qualified (after my daughter was born) I knew I had made the right decision," she says. "I had not only caught the bug for teaching but also learning myself. I want to be the best teacher I can be, so I am constantly developing my own skills while developing the skills of others."
These days, Kathy runs her own multi-car driving school, and teaches at all levels from learner to driving instructor.
"My favourite moments are when you have a student who has been with other teachers (who have given up on them!) and I see they are making progress and simply getting it."
"This is especially important to me on the Instructor Training side, as it's a life-changing event for some people - just like it was for me. I don't give up on people, even when they have given up on themselves, and get great pleasure is seeing them pass their final qualification."
