Transition Learning Connections - The Pilot

This pilot is testing out a way to connect people who offer training for transition and support for initiatives with those who want it. We know that there are many types of skills, training and support which could help people in transition initiatives to lead positive community responses to peak oil and climate change. But we thought we would start with the one area where training seems most urgently needed - PERSONAL, GROUP & ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS!

It has been created through a partnership between Transition Training & School of Everything. The Pilot will run from May 2009 to April 2010. Once the pilot has been completed and evaluated, we hope to roll it out into all the other areas of training.

Most importantly - for it to work, we need you to make use of it - so if you want to offer training in personal, group or organisational skills or want to find some, please sign up now!!!

Partnership between Transition Training & School of Everything

School of Everything is described below and is a site which connects teachers and learners in any subjects, not just Transition. This pilot is an area within the wider site which just focuses on Transition, so please register and search from this page to offer and find Transition-related training. If you want to look for other sorts of teaching/learning please click the School of Everything logo above and then use the search facility.

If you want to see all the members of this network, click the Search button on this page, leaving the search field empty. If you are stuck and have any questions after reading the User Guide and the School of Everything help pages, there is an email address on the last page of the User Guide for you to contact us at Transition Learning Connections directly.

If you are already a member of School of Everything, you will need to contact the SoE team and ask them to add you to the Transition Learning Connections group - to do this, email hello@schoolofeverything.com. (It may not happen instantly.)

A Welcome from School of Everything

We started School of Everything because we believe in the kind of learning that happens face-to-face, when people get together around shared interests. We want to use the internet to support independent teachers of all kinds, as well as networks and organisations which embody the traditions of grassroots education.

At its simplest, the site is an online version of the poster in a shop window or on a cafe notice board. It's a free way to communicate with people in your area about the courses and services on offer.

On a deeper level, this is also an attempt to fulfil the vision of "learning webs" sketched out by Ivan Illich in Deschooling Society. When he wrote about using databases to match up learners, it sounded like science fiction. Today, it sounds like commonsense.

By joining the site, you get a new way to find the training you need or participants for your courses. And you'll also be helping build an international network of people dedicated to a vision of education as something broader than a production line for skilling tomorrow's workforce - as something which can transform lives and create lasting social value, or simply be great fun for everyone involved.

We're proud to be associated with an organisation such as the Transition Network. Over the coming months, we look forward to learning more about how we can support its activities at a local and national level.

We hope you like our site and good luck with using it.
