Learning maths and English with fun and focus - Beginner level

I ensure that students understand that tutoring sessions are a ‘training ground’ and lessons and daily lives are the “match” or “performance”. This imagery works for both boys and girls who understand the importance of transferring learnt skills in training to the game or stage, whether this is football, music or dance. For one-to-one sessions to be successful, the student must take her / his learning into the classroom and everyday life. One to one sessions are an enjoyable way of filling the gaps.Students learn in a fun interactive way, focusing on the areas they need, not the agenda of the class.
Students focus on the areas they need, not the agenda of the class.

I use a variety of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic methods of engaging children. I use imaginative strategies to ensure lessons are fun - and memorable. For example, washing up liquid bottles, paintbrushes and masking tape can be key spelling tools! Some children, for whom maths is difficult, can visualise a number line as lily pads with Tigger jumping from one to the next. One boy I recently worked with, loved to dance, so for the tables that he found tricky, he created individual dance patterns. Others, to develop vocabulary and imagination, we would ‘stand on the cliff top’ and very cautiously, peer over the edge. Pupils love it. Same objective, different path.
