Founded in 1992 Cadenza is now considered one of Scotland’s top amateur mixed voice choirs, attracting members from across the central belt. Musical Director Jenny Sumerling is known as a perfectionist, demanding the best from her singers, but offering clarity, precision & thoughtful interpretation. Under her direction Cadenza has gone from strength to strength with invitations to perform at many prestigious events, including Raymond Gubbay “Carols by Candlelight” concerts in the Usher Hall & Glasgow Royal Concert Hall two years running, and premièring the finalists in Waverley Care’s international Christmas Carol Writing Competition. The winning carols will be included on the choir's 3rd CD, to be recorded early in 2012.
Cadenza performs a wide ranging repertoire, throughout the year, including the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival concert which has attracted capacity audiences for some years. Audience comments in 2011 included "stunning ", “uplifting”, “highlight of the Festival”, “exciting and disciplined performance”. Critically acclaimed at previous Fringe concerts, Cadenza has also broadcast on BBC Radio 4, Radio 3 & Radio Scotland.
