Bass and Guitar Lessons in Bristol

I am a professional musician and a registered guitar and bass teacher at Drumbank Bristol. As well as teaching there I can also do home lessons.

I teach everything from:

Basic guitar chords/ Basic bass grooves

Playing along with your favourite songs

Major/ Minor scales and basic theory

Beginning to improvise

Playing in styles – rock, folk, blues, reggae, funk. 'world music', african etc

To more advanced skills like:

Control of the instrument - right and left hand technique, getting a good sound, time, dynamics, articulation, fingerboard knowledge.

Aural skills - ear training, recommended listening, nomenclature.

Knowledge of material - A theoretical knowledge of all material and various methods of organising this on the guitar or bass including: scales, modes, arpeggios, rhythm, key centers, chords, etc.

Manipulation of material - applying what you know, improvising, limitation exercises, drills, melodic construction

Effective Practicing - How to practice.

Being more musical - Ideas to be more expressive.

I am an experienced session player and instrumental teacher, and currently play bass guitar for two signed acts from Bristol, one of whom recently won a Top Banana award in Venue magazine for 'Best Act 2008'. I have supported acts like 10cc, David Byrne (of Talking Heads), Sun Ra's Arkestra, Marc Ribot (guitarist for Tom Waits), and many others and have 10 years international gigging and studio experience. I am a 1st Class graduate of University of Edinburgh and also a trained music educator having taken the Music Educators course at Bristol's Access to Music.
