Celebrating the Co-operative Movement
Let's do lunch
Other than in the very early days of School of Everything we've always worked in Bethnal Green in east London. That's mainly Geoff Mulgan's fault because he offered us some free office space in the Young Foundation building. It's a wonderful place, full of interesting projects and organisations and surrounded by a few cafes which we used to frequent on a regular basis.

Must Read Social Media Books
Reading books has just got social. Social media that is. Having just done a search on social media books at Waterstones I found that they were 529 books with social media in the title. Examples include The social media bible and Social media goes corporate. If we take a moment and think about what the landscape was like a few years ago one could argue that most of the books would not have anything to do with social media.
Experience start-up life
We're on the lookout for some great interns to join us over the summer at Everything HQ. According to Internsforyou.com this is what start-up life looks like:

We're not sure where they got that from. Compare and contrast with this photo of our CTO Pete (on a good day):

New investment for School of Everything!
We're very pleased to announce a new round of investment for School of Everything.
Tim Jackson, founder of QXL.com and LendAround, has become an investor and joined the board of the company. Channel 4 has followed up its initial investment through its new innovation fund 4iP and Sean Park and Geoff Mulgan join existing investors Rocco Pellegrinelli and the Young Foundation in this round.
We're very excited because it means we'll be able to continue to grow School of Everything both in the UK and internationally, helping more people find new things to learn near them.
The other half of "Artists Ship"
"It's natural for organizations to learn from mistakes. The problem is, people who propose new checks almost never consider that the check itself has a cost."

Probably the smartest piece of advice to any growing organisation.
Learning to start an internet company
We don't really have a clue, but so far, it looks like it might be ok.

ARTICLE: Fortune Favours the Relentless Marketeer
The way most people get to hear your music is by somebody somewhere telling them to listen to it. It could be friends, family, people on websites, promoters, radio pluggers, journalists, bloggers, A&R executives, graphic designers, record shop owners, music teachers, instrument manufacturers, brands, bar staff in gig venues, people at gigs, record producers, advertising creatives, filmmakers and TV shows producers. It’s highly rare that somebody will just stumble across it, yet marketing is something that few bands and artists ever do well. Apart from the successful ones.

Career Paralysis - 5 reasons why your brain struggles with career decision making (and how psychology can help)
Why do so many people struggle to work out what career to choose?
Occupational psychologist Rob Archer argues that it's because the brain isn't set up to make modern day career decisions.
He sets out 5 ways in which we struggle - but then outlines how you can counter these cognitive biases and identify the career that's best for you.
Social Norms? Twitter Users Follow the 79/7 Rule in the U.K.
The Pareto principle, more commonly known as the 80/20 rule, is the idea that roughly 80 percent of activity will be accounted for by 20 percent of the participants. Vilfredo Pareto’s initial observation at the start of the 20th century, that 80 percent of Italy’s land was owned by 20 percent of the population, has become a common rule of thumb in business, but does it hold up when tracking activity for the U.K.’s most popular social networks?

Every member of School of Everything can add notes, links, videos, images, documents and other things to the site that help people learn or teach a particular subject. If you're teaching, you can share useful resources and advice that you think will help people learn you subjects. You can tag each resource post with one or more subjects, and your posts will appear to other people looking for those subjects.
