I've been giving private Portuguese lessons for some time now - employing a range of methods to suit all levels to great success.
My excellent command of the English language and in-depth knowledge of British and American culture help inform each lesson, bridging the gaps by establishing comparisons and highlighting key differences.
Clarifications between Portuguese as spoken in Brazil and Portuguese from Portugal can also be provided, if that is of interest.
I plan my lessons to suit your specific needs. The attached plan was designed for a new writer who wanted:
1. to develop an approach to plotting character development
2. to get some experience in scene-setting
I took the student to a local church to have a go at capturing the sensual detail of the setting and translating it to the page. We did a couple of exercises together to establish which of the student's characters had the potential to develop most during the course of the novel and what the nature of the development would be.
Information on digital literature projects I've worked on, including a Twitter poem, an online reading group, digital storytelling projects, websites for writers and and multimedia literacy resources.
Here's a novel that I co-authored with a bunch of other writers. Using some simple technology, we wrote, edited, published and launched the novel within a weekend. The character I created is a teenage girl called Jas who's in mourning for her recently-deceased grandfather. She visits his old allotment to try to reconnect with him and ends up spying on some decidedly dodgy gardeners.
Information on my writing projects and poetry readings.
Below, I have listed all the forms of combat I have natural ability and some experience in. I am looking for a teacher, a mentor. I am not an ordinary fighter. I fight with instinct and knowledge, thought and force, mind and matter. I have been very patient in my search for a great mentor. I signed up here in desperation that there will be someone who can assist me. Teach me. Train me.
