Mouse Music: how the internet is changing the way we learn music

Date: Tuesday 30th November
Time: 6.30pm - 9pm
Venue: School of Everything, 18 Victoria Park Square, London, E2 9PF
Food and drinks provided

Next Tuesday we are holding a discussion about how the internet is changing the way in which we learn music - whether it be singing, digital music production, guitar or music theory or anything in between.

We are delighted to announce our guest speakers for the event - each talking about what they think is going on with all this and outlining their experiences with music, technology and peer education. They’re also very nice people.

David Jennings - author of Net, Blogs and Rock 'n' Roll
Charlie Tims and Pete Bradwell - co-founders of hmtpng

Here at Everything HQ we are particularly interested in how the internet can help people interested in learning something, in this case music, to meet others to learn with. Because we think learning is better with friends. Also, come along for the chance to try out a very new School of Everything service that helps you start your own peer-to-peer learning group.

There are a few spaces left for this event and we'd love it if you could join us. If you’d like to grab a space send us an email. (hello@schoolofeverything.com)

We're running this workshop in conjunction with Netsounds, a European network project that promotes the use of digital technology and social networking in musical education.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

You have an website that has grown over time, and while it is very useful, much of the content is out of date or inaccurate, it’s hard to find things, updating the site is complex, the appearance may be dated and you’ve lost track of the pages on the site.

How a CMS overcomes these issues:
Content Management Systems (CMS) systems are designed to simplify the publication content to websites, by allowing users without any technical knowledge or HTML skills to create content, keeping the website fresh and current. The processes involved in managing the website are separated by the CMS, CMS sites need not be expensive and users have full control.

Search Engine Optimisation

Many companies offer to get your site in the top 10 of search engine rankings, this cannot be guaranteed. Cramming and hiding text and other quick fix techniques are likely get your site ignored by search engines. It is better to develop your site ethically, that is far more likely to increase traffic to your site.

SEO is best thought of as a process that determines many elements of your site, the most important criteria are listed here: http://www.pinkmayhem.co.uk/search_engine_optimisation.html
