    History of Tai Chi

    The term Tai Chi Chu’uan translates as "supreme ultimate fist".
    The concept of the Tai Chi appears in both Taoist and Confucian Chinese philosophy, where it represents the fusion of Yin and Yang into a single Ultimate, represented by the Yin / Yang symbol also known as taijitu. Thus, tai chi theory and practice evolved in agreement with many Chinese philosophical principles, including those of Taoism and Confucianism.

    Worldmapper

    Worldmapper is a collection of world maps, where territories are re-sized according to the subject of interest. It's a very useful visual tool for comparing countries on factors such as human and social inequality, natural resources and population.     There are nearly 700 maps, some are available as PDF posters. Worldmapper also have a series of maps on the visualisation of the world's population using a new mapping technique: Worldmapper Gridded Population Cartograms.

    subjective science is the methodology by which we come to comprehend ourselves.

    objective science is the methodology evolved over centuries to study objects, most recently developed over the last 200 to 400 years in the west.

    some simple equivalences between the science of objects and the science of subjects: experiments v experience, facts v insights, knowledge v wisdom, absolute v relative, falsification v verification, logical v intuitive, predictive v unpredictable, simple v complex.

    Request for Advice on 11+ Tuition

    I work as a tutor at GCSE and A-level, in maths and the sciences. The problem is what to do to pay the bills in the summer holidays.

    I have thought about tutoring the ‘Kent Test’ (which is the 11+ here) through the summer. I have been given differing opinions on this: some say it is easy and I should go for it, others say that it is so unlike tutoring the 15-18 age group that a very different style is needed and parent’s expectations are much higher of the tutor relative to the student given the latter are only 10 years old.
