I am offering a limited number of Folk Fiddle lessons, in your own home. Pupils are welcome to record during the lesson and can be provided with transcriptions of any tunes learnt as .pdfs or print outs as well.

Depending on the starting ability of the pupil, I try to cover a wide range of topics: repertoire, style, technique or by request we can focus on playing for dance, a more specific genre, improvising or advice on playing live (working with a band, amplification, etc)

Naomi Burrell was born in Glasgow. At the age of 6 she began the violin and moved to England, studying at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama until the age of 18. Half-swiss, she went on to study with Detlev Hahn at the Bern Conservatoire for half a year and then taught music in an orphanage and travelled in South America. After her gap year, she read music at the University of Manchester on the prestigious joint course with the Royal Northern College of Music where she studied baroque violin with Dr Pauline Nobes and modern violin with Jan Repko.

Born in 1989 in Portugal, Joana started playing the violin at the age of 4. She studied at the
Conservatoire of Music in Aveiro with Ana Sofia Mota until she finished her school education. During
the final two years, she also studied the viola with Hugo Diogo.
In 2007 she was awarded a place at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon, where
she continued her violin studies with Anibal Lima. She also had chamber music coaching with Alexei
Eremine and Paul Wakabayashi. After 3 years she finished her Undergraduate course there.

Having received a first class MusB (Hons) degree from the University of Manchester, I have been awarded a scholarship to study violin at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance at postgraduate level.
