"I first met Affy at my girlfriends works party in a recording studio on Old street, I had just come from a rehearsal looking after Pete Ray Biggin and Karl Vanden Bosche, part of Mark Ronsons Version players who Ive been working for since March 07. I was introduced to Affy who was practicing her rudiments on a plastic chair in the corner of the studio. Ive been looking after drummers/percussionists for 17 years, starting with Martin Ditcham (Chris Rea) in 91, and along the way have techd for some of the best drummers in the world, Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai) 9 years and counting, Gerry G Town Brown (Diana Ross), Owen If (Stereo M.Cs) , Cora Coleman (Pink) Johnathan Joseph (Joss Stone) to name but a few. As they say the last thing a chef wants to do when he gets home is cook, but after talking to Affy for 5 minutes all I wanted to talk about was drums, her enthusiasm was a breath of fresh air, her knowledge and passion for the art of tub thumping took me back to when I first got into drums in the late 80s.
Being a recording studio there was an old Pearl Masters set up in the room and I could see Affy chomping at the bit to get involved, as she did her face lit up as she grooved along to the p.a, Affys feel and groove was fantastic, she had the technique of someone way above her years and looked like a star in the making. A talent like Affys should be nurtured and helped along in any way and I will personally put my reputation on her to do great things in the future."
