Teaching elearning, English as a foreign language: technical English, intercultural competence and teacher training.

I teach English as a foreign language. These days it is mostly technical English. I work in educational projects helping other teachers incorporate digital tools in their everyday work. I have also trained to teach language in Second Life. I am co-host of the podcast Absolutely Intercultural. My projects also often include intercultural competence training.

Project VITAE

The VITAE project, of which I am manager, will finish in September 2009 by which time we will have developed an approach to stimulating the adoption of ICT by teachers of adult learners in appropriate ways. The project is at http://www.vitae-project.eu

Project LIPS

The acronym for this EU project stands for Linguistic and Intercultural Preparation for Students. The project developed an online training course to prepare university students for internships in foreign companies. My role was external evaluator and online meeting moderator.

Project VOCA2

I managed this European project which developed an approach to help disabled people remain in the workplace with the help of mentors. The project involved developing and piloting the mentor training.

Project The Nordic Voice/Den Nordiske Stemme

This was a project supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers. I initiated and led the project in which partners from Denmark, Norway and Iceland devised ways of promoting the integraton of ICT in language education through an online conference and community of practice.

21st century skills and mentoring

This is a free online presentation and workshop for teachers. I will explain my understanding of what 21st century skills are. I will explain how barriers to adopting IT could be viewed as an intercultural experience. You will have the chance to try out some mentoring approaches to some of these inter-cultural dilemmas.
