Cath James
I teach music from the Celtic traditions - from Ireland, Scotland and Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. That's all those jigs, reels, hornpipes waltzes etc. - mainly music to dance to, to play in sessions or with friends, or in a band, who knows! All ages welcome, any level, complete beginners to advanced, and those "converting" from classical. You don't need any previous knowledge (e.g. reading music or understanding music theory)to have lessons.
Always fancied a go? Despite the rumours you may have heard, you can start learning fiddle at any stage of life! I have students aged 7-70!
Playing already? Are you struggling with your technique? Can't get a nice sound? Want to play more in tune? Interested in ornamentation etc.? Classical converters welcome.
I was a finalist in the BBC Young Tradition Award in 1995, the Niel Gow International fiddle composition award 2008 and the Amber fiddle award 2011. I currently play with skyhook (www.skyhookmusic.com) and Roger the Badger ceilidh band (www.rogerthebadger.com)
I have been teaching for 16 years and has a Certificate of Teaching from the Royal Northern School of Music, and current CRB check. Also Grade VIII violin and Grade VII theory from my previous life as a classical musician!
