Elspeth Hanson
Violin and Folk Fiddle teacher
Elspeth is a Scottish violinist currently at the Royal Academy of Music studying for a Postgraduate Masters. She is a session violinist and most recently performed solo violin alongside Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, Leona Lewis and David Beckham at the Olympics Closing Ceremony - in the London 2012 Handover. Elspeth started learning the violin aged 12 and at 16 won a place as first violin with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She has performed at the BBC Proms and gave a winning solo performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in the Birmingham Symphony Hall in July 2005 as part of the National Festival of Music for Youth. She is a first study fiddle player and is gaining increasing recognition on the UK folk scene as a member of the popular Irish band Cluas. She performed solo at the Millennium Dome aged 14 and was asked to perform with the RSAMD Accordion teacher Ian Muir and currently learns with Catriona Macdonald. Increasingly asked to combine her unique skills as classical violinist and fiddler, Elspeth played solo folk fiddle in the BBC's live Christmas broadcast The Liverpool Nativity and she works with Award-winning composer Philip Sheppard on studio session projects including recording with Universal Records.
