I studied cello at the R.S.A.M.D. from 1973 to 1978 with Joan Dickson. I left with a DRSAM Teachers and Performers.
In 1977 I began my career as a freelance cellist with all the major orchestras in Scotland, including, B.B.C. S.S.O., Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Scottish Opera. I also recorded many shows for Scottish Television in their Cowcaddens Studios.
In 1978 I was a founder member of Bellarmine Arts Centre which later produced some of the finest string players in Scotland.
In 1980 I stopped teaching to accommodate my busy freelance schedule, adding summer seasons as Max Jaffa's cellist to my work.
In 1988 I took up the post of full-time cello teacher in Glasgow and cello tutor for Glasgow Schools Symphony Orchestra.
From 1992 to '96 I became the Senior String tutor at Strathclyde Arts Centre which involved the organizing of three string orchestras and their tutors as well as conducting the Senior Orchestra. I also went into orchestral management, booking orchestras for U.K. Tours with big-name stars such as Rod Stewart, Neil Sedaka and Bread.
In 1996 to 1998 I took over as the Music Coordinator for the Arts Centre, taking responsibility for all the groups involved.
Since then I have concentrated a lot of my teaching in Primary Schools. I have found it to be one of my most productive times in my teaching.
In 2005 I organized a very successful Glasgow City wide workshop for 30 cellos and 10 Double Basses, taken by the eminent cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. It is a start for what I hope will become Glasgow's first Cello Orchestra.
I am married to Caroline, a 1st violinist in the R.S.N.O. We have 3 children. Adam 19, Fraser 16 and Kate 4
