Ian Younger
I am an experienced photography tutor, and regularly run full-day courses for Jessops Training Academy (see full details at www.jessopstrainingacademy.com). I use Canon EOS digital SLRs, but can also guide you in the use of other cameras and teach you the basics of photography to ensure you get the best out of your camera and gain the confidence to take pictures you can be proud of. I am happy to give one-to-one tuition or teach small groups.
I am police-checked and am happy to teach children as well as adults.
I have been taking photos since the age of 11, when my dad loaned me an old box camera to take away on a school trip. I have sold pictures for publication in magazines, run my own business taking portrait photos of children and have taken photos for a corporate video production for an estate agency. I now run my own web-based business specialising in landscape photography – www.lakelandphotoscapes.com I am also a member of the Bureau of Freelance Photographers.
I have a wealth of experience as a trainer and teacher, and regularly deliver staff training courses in my ‘day job’ with a University. I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and spent four years teaching Employment Law at University level, where my gift of being able to explain complex information in easy-to-understand ways earned me a Teaching Excellence Award.
My relaxed manner and ability to put students at their ease will particularly appeal to beginners and less confident learners.

Weekend Landscape Workshop
Join me for a weekend of tuition, picture-taking and feedback, based in the beautiful ‘capital’ of the Lake District, Keswick.
The programme will include an initial tuition session on the Friday late afternoon/early evening covering techniques and equipment for landscape photography, including:
Shooting in aperture-priority to control depth of field
Focusing techniques and use of hyperfocal points
Why you need a tripod
Use of filters to enhance your pictures
Tips for Composition
On the Saturday you will be given a chance to put it all into practise, as we tour some of the best locations the Lakes have to offer, including Castlerigg Stone Circle, Ashness Bridge, Derwentwater and Buttermere. A maximum group size of just 6 means you will have plenty of individual attention and guidance.
The weekend finishes on Sunday morning with a final review session, looking at your pictures from Saturday, providing feedback and critique and giving an introduction to how you can further enhance your images with editing software. The session will finish by mid-day, allowing plenty of time for your journey home.
Meals and accommodation are not included, but transport is provided on the Saturday to all locations.
Remember, the weather in the Lakes can be unpredictable. Make sure you bring appropriate clothing for a day in the outdoors, and please note that the locations used may be varied if the rain is too heavy!
Making a start with your Canon DSLR
I regularly run full-day training courses for Jessops, in their Birmingham and London stores. If you would like to attend one of these, please book on the Jessops website - http://www.jessopstrainingacademy.com
However, I can also deliver the same training exclusively to your group, club or organisation, for a flat fee that covers up to 12 students.
If you can arrange a suitable venue, preferably with facilities for projecting a Powerpoint presentation (I'll bring the laptop, if you provide a projector), I will come to you.
This course gives you a full 6 hours of tuition, with plenty of practical hands-on exercises and examples of my photographs to illustrate key concepts.
