James has an excellent history in Music and Education. Praised as an Outstanding practitioner he has already achieved the nationally recognised Advanced Skills Teacher Status, gained a number of awards and received the Fellowship of the Guild of Musicians and Singers, for his work in Music Education.
After graduating from the Royal Schools of Music, James gained a Diploma and Post Graduate in teaching, followed by further study in Music and Movement Education. He holds the CSAK Certificate and License in Music and Movement Education, as well as a Certificate in Movement Education from the London College. He has completed study with the renowned David Vinden (Kodaly Centre, London) and The Voices Foundation. He studied choral conducting with Sing for Pleasure and Eurythmics with Jacqueline Vann of the Dalcroze Society (UK).
As a musician he is a proficient vocalist and pianist. A well-trained Tenor, he has studied with some of the best teachers and organisations in the UK, America and Europe; covering all vocal genres, but specialising in Musical Theatre (Birmingham School of Acting) and Opera (with Diego Colli and Rose Bruford College). He studied Piano with Master Teacher Christie Skousen and holds a BA in Music and National Diploma in Performing Arts.
During the course of his career he has developed a truly extensive teaching technique, which incorporates the best pedagogy in voice and music teaching today. In addition to his methodology specialisms, James also includes Bel Canto technique, Speech Level Singing, Estill Techniques and Voice Gym within his repertoire of skills.
James worked successfully for a number of years as a Voice Teacher for a number of well-known Theatre and Stage Schools in the Country. Since this time he has successfully directed Music at a Singing School in South Birmingham, and currently also works a Consultant Practitioner for Voice and Speech, for Birmingham Authority. He specialises in the application of the Kodaly and Dalcroze pedagogies in the teaching of Voice and Piano, and teaches voice and musicianship to students of all ages. One of his most prolific interests is in how music, movement and singing can be used therapeutically and he works regularly in the field of vocal rehabilitation, speech and speech therapy; language and communication support. He is a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and holds additional qualifications in Vocal Diagnostics (A.Dip.(Voice)), Alexander Technique (Prof.Dip.(AT)) and Speech Education from the Voice Master Studio. He is also a Certified Specialist Teacher for Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
As a practitioner James works widely with a range of clients experiencing voice and speech related difficulties, both in educational settings and in private practice. In addition to his studio work, James is an Assessor for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and runs regular workshops and vocal clinics. He is in demand as a teacher and lecturer in a range of settings and is regularly invited to present workshops and training for organisations and Education Authorities around the country.
