The Feet as Foundations
I never cease to be amazed at what we expect our feet to do for us, yet we rarely treat them right", says Jane Dawson, senior yoga tutor with the British Wheel. "We put them in ill-fitting shoes, in which we tramp all day, we squeeze the toes, or wear ugg boots collapsing the instep and when we 'put our feet up' we are probably more bothered about the cup of tea in our hand than a foot rub".
Jane, inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli, believes that yoga is a deep and personal transformation through developing awareness. This approach to yoga places its emphasis on quality of movement and attention to detail. Starting with the feet, the body rises from the ground and our posture develops, if we neglect our feet the whole body sits on unstable foundations.
Running consecutively these two August workshops begin a journey of discovery from the feet up. Increasing mobility in your feet can sort out problems in your hips and knees as well as alleviating lower back pain. Good foot alignment can even relieve neck and shoulder issues. When you work with your feet, the whole structure of your leg is affected, helping your posture improve and adding grace to your movement. You will look and feel younger, giving your body a lightness and your face a natural lift.
Both workshops include innovative foot practices, gentle yoga asanas and walking techniques with challenge students' understanding of their feet. The workshops are a lively mix of hands on anatomy and experiential practices, which include lots of visual aids and group work. Designed as a journey the two workshops can also be taken separately, the evening session will be the quieter, more therapeutic of the two sessions.
You will regain good colour, liveliness and flexibility in your feet, a fresh a spring in your step and much more. I promise you won't be disappointed. Suitable for anyone who walks and a must for yoga teachers.
