I give private lessons or tutoring in these areas to all levels of students. While these topics are covered to a degree in piano and voice lessons, students who are on a music career track need working knowledge and skill in these areas. These are also very valuable skills and knowledge bases for someone who is writing music or wants to write music.
Lessons are catered to the student’s goals. I teach various styles of music based on what my students goals and needs are. I don’t expect all of my students to become concert pianists.
Lessons generally consist of (1) exercises to make the parts of the body used for playing stronger and more flexible and (2) songs (repertoire).
It is ultimately up to an individual to make his/her own choices about what sounds to make and how to make them, but I see most singers trapped in one vocal pattern/style/habit/production, ignorant of the amazing scope of sounds their body has the ability to make and use for whatever purpose the singer desires. I give my students as many tools as I can in the amount of time we have together, each for the purpose of showing the student the spectrum of sounds available to him/her at any given moment, while also showing him/her how to create those sounds without damaging the instrument. Most tools involve freeing the mind of self-defeating thoughts and/or the body of self-obstructing tension, thus releasing new sound options for the student that were previously suppressed and unknown to the student. It is my hope that my students will take away healthier habits and a greatly expanded palette of vocal colors from my studio to use in whatever musical endeavors they seek.
Payment in cash or check is always expected at time of service. You may pay ahead if you wish, or week by week. Whatever method is easiest for you to keep track of is fine with me.
Students who refer another student receive two free lessons.
I am open to bartering for lessons. Feel free to discuss options with me if you feel you can offer a service or product in lieu of cash.
Be prepared to spend an additional $50 to $100 per year on music.
Failure to notify me prior to a missed lesson will result in a charged lesson, except in case of an emergency.
I only see each student about 25 hours per year, so it’s very important to me that the student take every lesson available to him/her in order to make maximum progress.
If the student is ill, please let me know as soon as you can so we can reschedule.
If there’s a conflict, I need to know a week or two in advance since the lesson can often be rescheduled or switched for another student’s slot.
All lessons missed due to scheduling conflicts for the student or me will be made up. I encourage you to look ahead at upcoming months that may become very busy and schedule makeup lessons ahead of time. I’m happy to do hour lessons or two 45-minute lessons to makeup a lesson.
