Jessica Rocman
As a teacher:
I am a mobile music teacher and can travel to your home to teach.
I have previously taught violin and piano in my spare time for the past 5 years and I am hoping to take up both on a professional level full-time now that I have finished University and am concentrating on teaching rather than session work as I have been previously in the past two years. I teach anyone of any age or level, from absolute beginners to advanced players.
I offer a FREE trial lesson for violin, piano and composition.
If you would like a reference then please let me know.
I charge £20 per hour and £15 for half an hour (depending on how far I need to travel. If it's any more than 5 miles, I may charge slightly more but only to cover the extra petrol cost) When there are two pupils in one house having a half hour lesson, I charge the discount rate of £20 for both.
I am happy to drive to any home to teach within 15 miles of Leatherhead, where I live.
About Me:
I have been passionate about music from a young age, began playing violin when I was 3 and started piano aged 5.
When I was younger, I led a few orchestras in and out of school. I was a member of the National Childrens Orchestra and The Surrey Youth Orchestra. I gained a music scholarship to my Senior School, age 11.
I am currently an active session musician and over the past few years, I have regularly played many different styles of music even though I was originally classically trained.
I've been fortunate enough to play at several big events and festivals in my musical career including BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend (as in picture), a Prom at the Royal Albert Hall and a concert at The Royal Festival Hall conducted by Richard Stilgoe. I have played music all over Europe with both bands and orchestras.
I've completed a BMus (Hons) Classical Music Degree at Cardiff University and I passed my grade 8 in 2000 with High Distinction and my piano grade 8 three years later.
I am also a composer and have done some film composition for a British Film Company and was highly awarded for my composition work at school/college.
Approach to music tuition:
I am happy to teach anyone any style of music once they have learnt the basic important techniques/skills.
I will push my pupils to the best of their ability without being harsh and try to bring out their musicality as I think it is important to really understand the music rather than just following the notes on the page, as this is what's needed in order to ever perform on a professional level.
I was taught violin using the Suzuki Method and I hope to complete a Suzuki teaching course in 2013 when the next course opens. I have a very thorough understanding of the Suzuki method and use the essential concepts I learnt with Suzuki to teach violin.
I love to compose a wide range of music. I also love to improvise on piano and would love to pass on my passion for composition and improvisation to others who would also like to learn to compose.
I can also teach basic music theory where needed and if any pupils have or wish to purchase the musical notation computer program 'Sibelius', I can teach them how to use it in detail and how to write a professionally presented piece of music.
I also do a full check for A Level and GCSE music composition coursework for any mistakes that an examiner will pick-up on and can give tips on how one can improve their composition in order to get a good mark.
