John M. Lovett is a screenwriter with two produced movies and one documentary to his credit. In 1999, he wrote CATHY MORGAN, a science fiction mystery for M. E. Mervich productions. In 2001, he wrote and co-produced TWO WEEKS, a juvenile tween comedy, with ASGI Productions. He wrote additional dialog for the science fiction movie YONGGARY.
Since 2001, he has headed up two screenwriting groups in Orange County and helped budding screenwriters develop their talent. He has also been an active volunteer with the Creative Screenwriting Expo in 2006. Since April 2007, he has written and hosted LA Screenwriter, a screenwriting podcast, on TalkShoe which has over 1000 downloads per week. He also teaches screenwriting for the City of Fullerton.
He is also a non-fiction writer and has contributed articles to e-magazine Suite101 – Military Movies, The Ordnance Magazine, Military Intelligence Magazine, and contributor to various volumes of The International Military Encyclopedia. He is also a military technical advisor for the video gaming, television, and motion picture industries. He has been interviewed regarding his views on current military affairs by the Scripps Howard News Service, Der Spiegel, MBC Korean Television, and the Orange County Register.

Writing for Movies and Television

Writing for the Movies and Television presents the fundamentals of screenwriting through class instruction and active student participation. This is a great class for beginners, experienced writers looking to brush up on their fundamentals, as well as those wanting to get a fresh take on the craft of screenwriting. Students gain knowledge to start, continue, and finish their first screenplay. The class covers screenplay character development, plot development, structure, conflict, and dialogue. Topics that the students will become familiar with are theme and premise; screenplay structure; finding the heart of your story; writing scenes; the first ten pages; creating dynamic characters through tension and drama; genre writing; connecting with the audience; and setup and payoffs. The class also includes a discussion of pitchable concepts, marketing tips, getting the agent, and networking.
