Johnny Hunter

I have been teaching both private lessons and workshops for the past 8 years, tutoring primary school ages through to adults. I have taught drums for the Cheshire County music service and for the past 3 years I have been running regular workshops in improvisation and ensemble playing.

I have been playing the drums for around 15 years and am beyond grade 8 standard. Over the past 8 years I have been involved in professional ensembles, playing alongside both nationally and internationally recognised musicians, including Benn Clatworthy, John Dankworth, Jamie Taylor, Steve Berry and Ed Kainyek. I have performed at Jazz festivals all over the country (most notably the London Jazz Festival, the Barbican International Jazz Festival and the Manchester Jazz Festival) and have previously toured the Netherlands and Spain with big bands. I am now regularly playing on the Sheffield with Karen Lake, Pete Lyons and Mick Beck, and I am the house drummer for the Matt & Phred's Jazz jam night in Manchester.
For 6 years I led and arranged the music for a professional 16-piece Blues and Soul band, and I am now arranging music for big bands, function bands and smaller jazz ensembles.

In June 2008 I graduated from the University of Sheffield, achieving a 2-1 masters degree.
