Kasper Opstrup
Alternative Culture lecturer
Well, I have always been a cultural enthusiast, have a BA in Art History and Comparative Literature and an MA in Modern Culture and Cultural Communication, both from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, but my education is by far the punk movement and the American Underground-scene from the eighties and its surrounding DIY-culture.
I am a founding member of the Danish art collective "floorless", which has operated in the space between art and activism since the year 2000, a co-editor of the experimental art magazine "In The Red" and am very interested in the connections between aesthetics and politics, mental revolution and social transformation. As a curator I have curated shows in London and Copenhagen since 2003 and in the same period I have written a bunch of articles as well as a lot of more creative writing. Most of the stuff has been selfpublished or printed in catalogues for exhibitions. One of my main interests are the anti- tradition, this kind of "hidden" history or "people's history" of modern culture that can be traced from medieval heretics and the Marquis de Sade over the avantgarde in the 20th century up to now and its connection to revolutionary politics.
The last class I taught before this was a Free Class in 2006 about Street Art/Graffiti and the use of public space for creative intervention.
