Beginner's Classes - Hackney Central Branch, Mei Quan Academy of Tai Chi
Tai chi (also spelt t'ai chi or taiji) is an ancient, tried and tested system of exercise with a basis in the martial arts. It is famous for developing relaxation, reducing stress, and balancing body and mind. It improves core strength, flexibility, energy levels and overall health and fitness.
Established in 1990 the Mei Quan Academy of Tai Chi provides tai chi, qi gong, martial art and meditation in over 20 venues across London, 7 days a week. We teach all aspects of traditional Yang style tai chi in a friendly and welcoming environment.
In the Hackney Central beginners' classes we are currently teaching the 24-step Beijing short form, qigong exercises, and partnerwork exercises. The teaching focuses on key aspects of tai chi:
- Becoming calm, centred and grounded
- Co-ordination, balance, suppleness and skill
- Harmony of body, mind and spirit, and harmony with natural cycles
- Self-knowledge, confidence, self-discipline
