FAQ

Where do the lessons take place?

Usually at the couple’s home. If you do not have enough space, I suggest using a friend or family member’s place. Alternatively, clients can come to my home in Blackheath, London SE13. Lessons are usually on evenings and weekends, subject to your schedule and my timetable.

Which song do we dance to?

I do not provide the music for your first dance, as couples prefer to choose their own song. If you can’t decide, I have a list of popular choices that we can send to you. I need to know the title of your chosen song in advance of the first lesson, and if it is an unusual or original piece, I might ask for a recording beforehand. Couples are expected to provide a CD of their dance song for the lessons.

Do we have to have dance experience?

Not at all, I specialise in helping clients from beginners to advanced, including couples with two left feet!

What style of dance do you teach?

I teach many different styles of dance; my “house style” does not usually include traditional Ballroom styles such as Foxtrot, Beguine or Latin Dance. However, I have access to a pool of specialist tutors, if you have this type of dance in mind, for example, salsa. Please enquire to discuss your specific requirements.

Do you do unusual requests?

Some couples want to learn two different dances, to perform as their first and last dances. This is not a problem, but will mean extra lessons.

Other couples use two songs with different dance styles in their routine, as a special surprise for guests, for example, an orchestral waltz suddenly turns into "I Like Big Butts" by Sir Mix-a-Lot! You can be as creative as you like, but this sort of surprise dance will also mean extra lessons.

Unusual requests such as famous movie or MTV routines, eg. Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, Thriller etc. are fine, provided you have plenty of time before the wedding for extra lessons and LOTS of practice! I recommend at least six months of tuition for the Dirty Dancing routine.

Wedding dance lessons

When you take the floor for the first dance at your wedding reception, all eyes are on you. Rather than worrying about tripping over your own feet, I can help you create and perform a slick dance routine to your favourite song, that you and your guests will never forget.
I provide professional dance tuition in your own home. I am a friendly, patient teacher with many years of professional dance and choreography experience.

Whether you are a nervous beginner, or more experienced on the dance floor, I will put you and your intended through your paces, helping you create a special dance routine you and your guests will never forget.

A Block of Five One-hour Dance Lessons includes:

Lesson 1: Introductory session and looking at your chosen song
Lesson 2: Beginning of choreographic work and routine
Lesson 3: Finalising choreography and completing routine
Lesson 4: Technical and stylistic work on routine
Lesson 5: Final rehearsal and soothing of any last-minute worries

With my clients, it usually takes approximately three hours to choreograph a three-minute routine.
