Yoga and holistic nutrition teacher
Margaret has been practising yoga for 34 years and has been teaching, in many settings including the penal system, the NHS and Maternity centres, for 17 years.
Classes are offered weekly and day-long
workshops one Saturday per month.
Her practice centres on releasing the spine by strengthening the body core. There is no imposition whatsoever so the emphasis is movement rather than posture led. When natural, subtle body rhythms reveal themselves we access the mind-body connection directly. Mental stress and deeply stored emotional and physical fears/tensions can effectively dissolve.
In all respects she considers herself more a facilitator than a teacher in the accepted sense.
She has produced a CD "Waveback" which augments what is taught in her classes and aims to alleviate back problems emanating from faulty posture.
She has also studied holistic nutrition in depth over 30 years and is the author of "Kitchen Yoga - Understanding Food" which can be ordered from her direct via her email address or through Waterstones Books.
Books and CDs will shortly be available directly from her new website once it is up and running.

Experience
Structural Integration
I explored structural integration intensively on a one-to-one basis with Carrie Tuke, an internationally experienced Structural Integration and Hakomi Therapist in order to experience the body's connections through the soft tissues (faschia) that would allow me to assist students find greater freedom of movement within themselves both physically and mentally.

The Breath
During these years I worked intensively in Italy and the UK with Sandra Sabatini, another former yoga student of the late Vanda Scaravelli.
The basis of Sandra's yoga teaching is the power of the Breath, which is also at the heart of The Prison Phoenix Trust's practice of Mindfulness.
Sandra's philosophy has profoundly influenced my own practice and teaching

John Stirk
After participating in one of John Stirk's workshops in 1993 I realised that this practice touched a deep chord in me. I
have been working with him on a regular basis ever since.
A former student of Vanda Scaravelli (whose main influence was the late philosopher, Krishnamurti), John taught me the benefits that accrue from the practice of release rather than the traditional one of imposition.
This approach embodies the core yoga teaching which is "to let go" of.....
whatever we are holding onto

Eigenweldt
Eigenweldt (now the Amida Trust) was a Buddhist based psychotherapeutic centre based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne that trained psychotherapists and allowed those who had trained elsewhere to participate in weekend intensives. Through Eigenweldt I was able to develop my own yoga practice and that allowed me to work in prisons where yoga was offered as a means of effective stress release to individuals across the prison spectrum, including those with serious emotional and mental problems.

Public Classes
The Breath and The Body Core
Workshops are run one Saturday per month and include a light lunch based on the principles outlined in "Kitchen Yoga - understanding food" a book that combines the practical aspects of nutrition with the philosophical aspects of yoga and is as much about preparing the body for food as preparing food for the body! Enquiries about the book: email abmworks@hotmail.co.uk
All workshops must be pre-booked as numbers are strictly limited to 10 to allow for individual attention.
A particularly useful workshop for anyone interested in working with subtle rhythms and movement emanating from the body core and radiating outwards into the more superficial musculature.
Feeling these movements enhances our sense of self and being present in the moment, and develops a healthy self confidence.

These classes are suitable for all abilities - complete beginners or those who have practised over several years.
They will provide additional benefit for those suffering from ailments such as back problems that have been induced by faulty posture.
In these classes students develop a conscious awareness of their habitual holding patterns, which allows alteration to take place naturally. This re-education allows for greater flexibility and freedom of movement both physically and mentally.

Being healthy
Real health is not merely an absence of disease.
Real health is our natural state. When body, emotions and mind balance we are at ease and life is a joyful rather than a problematic experience.
I offer one-to-one sessions where an individual can safely explore any physical, emotional or mental imbalances that are manifesting.
Working with the Breath and the Attention I help clients discover or re-connect with their own rhythms to facilitate re-integration of the Being on all levels.
