Stress - distress - and pain can often get in the way of living life to the full. All we experience happens moment by moment, but rather than living one moment at a time, we sometimes increase our distress by trying to live in the past or the future. Mindfulness is about seeing the big picture of our life as it unfolds. Mindful moments are the ones where we’re more present, when we have a sense of being ‘right here, right now’, with whatever we are doing, whatever we are feeling.
I began practising meditation and yoga in the early 1980s, and for many years taught at Buddhist Centres in London and Bristol. The way I teach Mindfulness now is straightforward and non-religious - which makes it more accessible to more people. I have seen this approach help people with stress, chronic pain, depression and anxiety - as well as those simply interested in developing awareness of the richness of life. As well as group training, I also tutor individuals in personal one-to-one sessions and distance learning.
I have trained with the Centre for Mindfulness Research & Practice at the University of Wales Bangor, the Mood Disorders Clinic at the University of Exeter, and am an Accredited Trainer with Breathworks.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for Chronic Illness & Pain
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for Chronic Illness and Pain
This course will be helpful for those whose quality of life is affected by chronic illness and pain. Over the eight sessions, you will be learning how to experience each moment of your life in ways that bring a deeper sense of clarity, calm and kindness towards yourself – enormously useful if you have a tendency to get stuck in ways of thinking and behaving that bring more distress. This supports making long-term changes in how you approach life and manage illness and pain.
You’ll receive CDs with tutor-led instruction to help you practise at home. You’ll also be encouraged to practise mindfulness in everyday activities. A preliminary one-to-one discussion will clarify any questions before you start. You don’t need previous meditation experience, and the course is entirely non-religious and secular. The cost also includes a weekend morning retreat and ongoing ‘phone support during course.
We limit the number of places to ensure personal attention. We also teach the course one-to-one, either in person or by distance learning. Contact me for more details on 01752 405173, mindbase@talktalk.net, or see our website www.mindbase.co.uk
