I have always been involved in teaching in one way or another. My father taught maths for a number of years and, as my own mathematical ability developed, it always seemed I would end up doing the same.
I am willing to teach anyone at any level and really enjoy the challenge - especially with those who are "maths-phobic". My focus is on building student confidence and understanding in mathematics. Having taught students of all ages and over a huge ability range allows me to draw on a varied range of techniques to connect with each individual.
I won't promise to make maths less boring than you may find it at the moment, but I can promise to do my very best to make it easier to understand - even if that means trying 10 different explanations!
I am yet to give up on a student and believe EVERYONE can learn to understand mathematics.
If you have any questions or queries, feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to respond.

Experience
My experience so far...
After leaving secondary school in North Wales, I moved to Manchester to study mathematics as part of a MMath degree at UMIST. It was during this time that I first began working as a private tutor.
After my MMath, I then completed an MPhil in mathematical research based around cryptographic protocols and their security. At this point I was still doing lots of private tuition and decided to formalise this with a PGCE qualification.
Upon completion of my PGCE, I took a job at Abbey College in Manchester. Abbey Manchester is an independent sixth form college which specialises in resits for students requiring high grades to get into their preferred university. It was essential to quickly build confidence and understanding with these students as most of the time a B-grade just wasn't enough!
In late 2007, the opportunity arose to work at Falmouth Marine School, part of the larger Cornwall College Group and I jumped at the chance - Cornwall has always been a very special part of the world to me and now that I live and work here, I couldn't be happier!
Until the end of 2009, I lectured in maths and statistics for Cornwall College based at their Camborne and Falmouth sites. I taught across the curriculum, covering Access Maths and various foundation degree modules.
In January 2009 I became an Examiner with the Edexcel Examination Board, specialising in the Core 3 A2 examination. Marking exam papers allows me a great insight into how students perceive and approach exam questions and this has been a great benefit to my teaching.
Since 2009 I have been working as a private tutor providing both face-to-face and online tuition. Based on my experience so far, and having delivered over 1000 hours of online lessons, I would say that online tuition can be just as successful as face-to-face tuition and it is possible to deliver high quality live online tuition just about anywhere in the world!

I have a current Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) certificate which you are free to inspect and am cleared to work with children and young people.
Accidents and emergencies do happen so of course, some days you may have to cancel a lesson at short notice. The same may happen to me so all I ask is that you keep me well-informed and give me as much notice as you can and I will do the same.
