I am a North East Photographer working from Peterlee, Co. Durham. I've been pointing cameras at things now for some 20 years, my first serious work was done whilst serving in the Armed Forces. Since then I’ve developed my skill and fed my passion for photography constantly originally working with film, which I still love very much and do so at every opportunity and also working in digital as the industry has turned that way.

My four main areas of interest are:

Portrait Photography:

Portrait photography is not simply taking a snapshot of someone, rather it is spending time capturing the character of a person be that at home, work or otherwise. Creating an image of what a person is like, making a photograph that has depth and meaning for both sitter or viewer.

I really enjoy working in black & white, there's nothing in the world that can fire the imagination more than a black & white photograph. The absence of colour creates depth, character that other world, emotional feel that colour cannot match.

Photo Documentary:

I love telling stories, every event has a story to tell and I love getting I there knee deep, up close and gritty to get the story out. No long lenses for me, I up front a personal, I like being where the action is.

I enjoy every project that I take on, if it can be photographed I want to be there, I love my job and wouldn't swap it for all the money in the world.

Fine Art Photography:

I am developing an interest in the world of fine art photography, this stems mainly from my love of black & white photography. I enjoy the time it takes to set up equipment, to time taken to think about creating an image before the shutter is pressed and process of displaying that image to its best.

Teaching Workshops:

There's nothing more satifying than being able to explain and teach people the skills and the art of photography. Photographers tend to see thing a little different to everyone else, we spot stuff other people don't spot and make images from subjects other people don't even see.

I enjoy teaching people how to see, the technical aspect is only a small fraction, without being able to see and imagine the best gear in the world couldn't create great images. I uncover your creativity then teach you how to capture what's in your mind!
