PENNY O'CONNOR

Alexander Technique teacher

Teaching actors and sport, back pain, neck/shoulder tensions, posture, relaxation, RSI and self-awareness; performance skills for musicians.

I've been teaching Alexander Technique since '92 and come from a background in theatre and education.
I am the resident Alexander Tutor in the theatre BA and MA courses at the Arts Educational London School, Chiswick.
I work privately from my teaching rooms in Old Street, often with those who have back pain or RSI brought on by postural problems, or all comers who are interested in exploring the profound change of consciousness that Alexander brings.
I do corporate work for postural, RSI, stress, and back pain prevention and presentation skills.I worked regularly at BACS, and did an RSI project for Standard Chartered Bank and Reuters.
I mentor other newly qualified AT teachers, am visiting trainer on a number of AT schools and workshop leader at international AT congresses.
During the summer I teach AT on a Greek Island and run summer courses there, when not playing guitar, walking the dog and snorkelling.

I have also been influenced by NLP, Accelerated Learning, Reiki (initiate 2nd degree), Tai Chi, Feldenkrais and the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

Offering: private lessons, group classes, workshops, intensive courses and corporate.

Private Teaching

Alexander Technique

I give individual classes in this. One- to one, hands-on is the traditional teaching in the Alexander world in the UK. I analyse your balance issues, hear your story, and together we start working with experiments to improve your balance as you stand walk and sit. I will also lie you down on the floor or table and ask you to receive passive instruction from my hands as I gently guide your limbs and encourage your neck to free up and your back to lengthen and widen. The whole process is very gentle and client driven. If there is a specific problem you wish to deal with - how you speak, or play an instrument, how you work at a keyboard, we will base the work around these issues.
