The Tutor is a French native who started teaching in 1979 in Mexico. In the mid eighties, Philippe lived in Mexico for a year and a half, teaching for the Language Institute and tutoring students privately. He then spent a year in the States teaching in an Elementary school and tutoring individual students in his spare time.
The Tutor started his London career in 1988 dedicating all of his time tutoring and researching ways to improve private tuition methods. Since then, he has tutored close to 500 students between the ages of 5 and 85 years.
The Tutor now focuses on children over the age of 7 as it became clear that younger children benefit better from group teaching. Students 85 and over are still more than welcome, of course!
The Tutor has many affinities with the Latin American continent – a culture dear to his heart from a young age. He speaks Spanish and teaches it up to GCSE level. Having learned two foreign languages, virtually independently, the tutor is well positioned – and has acquired the necessary empathy – to advise those who wisely choose to seek the help of a professional for tuition.
From the start, the Tutor was dissatisfied with the current methods of tuition on the market and decided to re-examine the processes from every angle to determine better ways to achieve the various goals different people have at different levels. Surely one method, blindly applied to all students, could not cover all these disparities?
The Tutor was able to devise hundreds of effective exercises and techniques suited to each of the individual students. These methods, along with a strong sense of empathy and caring and lengthy experience in many examination papers, comprise the key to his current success. While dedication is an oft-abused word by those in the teaching profession, it remains true that without dedication, no tutor can achieve success with a student. The Tutor, remains dedicated to revealing the dormant possibilities that exist in every student.
The Tutor takes his work very seriously indeed, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. He endeavors to put the focus of attention on the student's needs at all times, applying a studious but relaxed atmosphere in which to learn.
