polly Thompson-Wilde
I am a choir leader and singing coach offering one to one or group sessions.
I hold a degree in music performance (singing) and a grade 8 singing qualification. My voice training and subsequent teaching has led me to a deep understanding of the voice as a powerful healing and communicative tool. Blocks in the breath flow or vocal mechanism can cause voice problems to arise, presenting as tightness, hoarseness or a lack of power and volume. I do not believe in being unable to sing, tuning problems often stem from a disconnection with the voice and the ears, I work on reconnecting you with your ears and developing self trust.
By making small adjustments to the way you use your voice and the way you listen I can help to put the control back in your hands. Together we will discover and build a freer, stronger voice that you can rely on.
I have been teaching for 5 years and take a 'whole person' approach to my lessons. I tailor lessons to each student and recognise that everyone learns differently and wants something different from singing tuition
As a teacher I very much enjoy the explorative process that leads to open, strong singing, I believe that everyone can sing and that singing regularly helps to promote a healthy mind and body.

Each session begins with some simple stretches and warm-ups and then some exersises to get the group working together and making beautiful sounds.
we then look at improvisation, working to break down the barriers and create some new music together. We look at different techniques and the mechanics of the voice to increase awareness and develop each persons sound.
After a short break we learn songs that I have collected during my time as a singer and choir member. We aim to sing beautiful existing songs with a primary focus on folk though members are invited to bring any songs they want to learn to the space. We also aim to sing new works from anyone who wishes to write for the choir.
Experience
ongoing one to one tuition
I started teaching during the last year of my degree and I have realised over time that it is something that I love and can learn alot from doing. I have taught alot of different people and have developed a student led approach that works at a students own pace. I use a variety of tecniques for developing your voice whilst looking at how you can better tell the stories in the songs you sing.
