Experience
Arts for Health Coordinator, Artist
I have managed and taught art and crafts on a number of Community Arts and Arts for Health projects as detailed below.....
Freelance Arts Tutor
Delivering visual arts activities...working in schools around Sheffield, with The Freeman College, with special needs students, and for events and fun days.
Freelance Arts Consultant
Developing arts programmes for community organisations... writing business plans, coordinating consultation, researching opportunities and developing partnerships, budgeting and fundraising.
Arts for Health Manager
(Forge Arts for Health, Forge Community Partnership, West Bank House, West St, Hoyland, Barnsley S74 9EE)
I have held responsibilities for the planning, implementation and management of cultural projects.
•From developing a programme of community based arts activity, recruiting and managing freelance artists through to overseeing delivery, fundraising, budgeting, publicising events and creating monitoring and evaluating systems.
•Curating local exhibitions of art work, planning and delivering festivals and Health and Fun days, community visual arts and crafts workshops and performing arts events.
•Facilitating mental health groups, older people’s groups, supported accommodation projects, youth groups, schools, families and Sure-Start creating activities that engage, inspire and reflecting peoples interests and concerns.
•Working within a difficult and volatile environment, keeping tight boundaries and maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
AnsArt Festival Coordinator
Roundhouse Community Partnership, 26 Laxton Road, Athersley, Barnsley. S71 3DH. Tel: 01226 770444. info@theroundhouse.org.uk
•The ANSart project celebrated 50 years of community life on an estate in Barnsley, a council estate that has suffered high unemployment since the mines closure. The arts were used to engage local people who had little previous experience of the arts.
•I developed, managed and delivered arts activities to showcase local achievement and reflect local interests. This culminated in a three-day community arts festival and a month long arts exhibition hosted in a variety of public venues.
Visual Arts coordinator
Sheffield Partnership for Education and Lifelong Learning, Buchanan Rd, Parson Cross, Sheffield, S5
•I worked as part of a team, with live arts and media arts development workers, in partnership with youth clubs, Sheffield College, Healthy Living Centres, Social Services, schools, Sheffield Parks, public houses and working men’s clubs to develop visual arts projects.
•I established arts projects that reflected the aspirations of local people, developed through regular consultations with professionals working in the area and local residents.
•I advised on funding opportunities to develop projects long term. We supported groups to apply for the Cultural Fund, a rolling programme of grants up to £3000 that was provided locally by SRB.
•I also facilitated arts workshops to enable people to advocate their opinions on the regeneration of their neighbourhoods; for example, I based digital photography and creative writing workshops in a park pavilion to enable people to creatively express how they would like to see their park developed. These workshops formed the basis for a local exhibition that resulted in further discussion and consultation.
