Saul Albert
Media Art lecturer
For a wide-ranging summary of my activities, involvements and qualifications, you could do worse than googling me.
To try and make that network view of me into something coherent, here's a brief bio:
90's
I learned my 'Net skills in the early 90's, when the public Internet and I were both young and edgy. Worked in collaborative art practices, wrote about Internet Art in influential journals and helped define the genre of Software Art.
early 2000s
Cut my teeth on radical educational experiments helping to found the University of Openess, and actively participating in the international movement of Free Networkers, culminating in my core involvement in starting the World Summit for Free Information Infrastructures. I still participate actively in campaigning for Free Culture with the Open Knowledge foundation.
Recently
I spent 5 years co-organising Dorkbot London, a key part of London's DIY art/technology scene. I fund-raised and helped start up London's first Season of Media Arts, and co-founded The People Speak an entrepreneurial small business providing conversational public art and technology.
Today
I am developing new participatory public art projects with The People Speak such as Who Wants to Be, and project managing our new open source software start-up, Directionless Enquiries. I am also organising workshops and educational programs teaching Open Source technology for small business with the New Media eXchange.
