I teach singing and keyboard from a lovely little home studio and deliver choral/singing/keyboard workshops up to 30 miles from Blackpool.
I have a special interest in helping primary teachers improve their music skills and have begun developing resources for that
As a youngster, I was an avid watcher of the original Star Trek series and a great fan of Patrick Moore, not to mention The Clangers! I dreamed of a career just like that of Liutenant O'Hura on the Enterprise, whizzing around the galaxy, speaking umpteen alien languages fluently and singing on the moon. You can imagine what a 1970s careers officer made of all that. Initialy, I pursued my musical ambitions via a great many private lessons, gaining performing experience in choirs and as a soloist in musical festivals and charity shows. As soon as possible, I auditioned for an agency and things took off from there. After a fifteen year career as a professional singer, I decided to go back to college and find out if I still had a brain.
The results seemed quite positive as I gained various qualifications in Spanish, Business Mnagement, ESOL, computing and accounting . Then, I was engaged by Lancashire Music Services as a peripateticvocal/keyboard /choral tutor. It wasn't too long before I began fronting a small pop band, formed with colleagues in the teaching profession. We travelled around schools in Lancashire promoting instrumental teaching and learning for the Music Service. Great fun. As time went by and I grew more confident in my teaching I began to look for a job with broader challenges and became joint head of music in two independent senior schools. That led to a year as Lead Professional for a national network of 63 schools, primary and senior. During this time I also undertook a course of study in astronomy at The Space Studies Centre in Rossal, Fleetwood. Reality finaly began to match up to the fantasy. I also began to crystalise my long held goal of producing learning materials and teacher training resources. I'm currently investigating online lesson delivery and in developing cross curricular music/science resources though that will take a little time to develop, please let me know if you're interested in that.
