Experience

Reference for Tom Webb

I have known Tom Webb since he came forward as a tutor for the Making Good Progress Pilot. My role is the pilot leader for the Making Good Progress Pilot in Leicestershire. The pilot is essentially about ensuring that pupils who for whatever reason become ‘stuck’, or whose progress gives cause for concern are offered the opportunity to receive some 1:1 tuition to help them get back on track. It is about identifying difficulties at the point of need.

Tom is a vastly experienced KS3 and KS4 maths teacher with up to date knowledge of the secondary frameworks and was identified as an excellent candidate to offer tuition to the pupils we are focussing on in the pilot.

Feedback regarding Tom’s work from the schools he worked in was excellent. He was punctual, reliable, well organised and his work for the students was well planned. Feedback from schools and pupils indicated his input had made a difference to pupils’ attitudes to work and to their attainment

FAQ

Does tuition make use of the Internet?

Yes. Although the tuition session uses mainly paper resources, each session ends with a review of useful weblinks that should help to consolidate a key topic from that session.

Are written progress reports available?

Yes. An written overview of progress will be available after five sessions for no extra charge. However, a written report of learning outcomes for each session is available for an additional charge.(approx. 500 words)

Are Booster sessions available during school holidays?

Yes. Many students are aware of particular topics that are in need of development. Often, there is limited time available within an increasingly over-burdened curriculum to re-visit these during the school term. A booster session is an ideal opportunity to focus on these topics with the aim of allowing the student an improved understanding.
