I spend most of my time working on my small business in hand-made sock dolls. It’s a skill I discovered quite recently, although I’ve always enjoyed making things. My own original designs are showcased on my website and at craft fairs. I enjoy making bespoke items most, and it’s a joy to show others how to turn recycled materials like pre-worn socks into items that make thoughtful, truly one-of-a-kind and sustainable gifts.

I get a real buzz when people ask me how one of my hand-made sock dolls are created. I love sharing my sock dolls with friends, and showing them how to make these quirky one-of-a-kind gifts at little cost.

Beginners will start with basic stitches and techniques to create adorable cuddly animals such as bunnies, cats and bears which are simple to make. Anyone could do it! Even if you’ve never done any sewing before. These basic skills will be applied to more complex designs at the individual’s own pace, such as human characters with hair, facial features and clothing. Inject your own personality with a touch of manga ubercoolness, goth mystery or kawaii sweetness! As you become more expert, make a doll that looks like you, someone you know or even a spectacular bride-and-groom centrepiece for a wedding!

My hourly rate includes the cost of basic materials (and new socks), though I strongly recommend using your well-loved, worn socks for the extra personal touch.
