Morecambe Library was opened in 1967 and was opened by Alderman Henry Lumby. It replaced a library which was housed in a shop on Victoria Street and opened in 1927. The hexagonal structure was notable even when new and has dated very well, providing an attractive environment for library users and events. In Pevsner's North Lancashire, it is one of the few individual buildings mentioned in Morecambe, and is described as "An ingenious design with folded walls and sloping tops of the walls to meet the lowest point of the roof. The roof is of the hyperbolic parabolic type" In 1989 major remedial work was carried out on the concrete structure of the library; this took over a year, but the library operated a reduced service throughout. Recent developments have seen the large open space of the lending library used for events cenedrating cultural diversity, and live music events as part of the award-wining Get It Loud In Libraries project,
