Traditionally, yoga was taught on an individual basis. This allowed the teachings to be tailored precisely to the interests, abilities and requirements of each different student. Although nowadays group classes are much more usual; there is still potentially great value taking individual sessions.

Whereas group classes are delivered to suit a general situation, individual practices are geared towards your needs. In a group class, students might not practice much between classes - although we would always encourage it! It is sometimes difficult to know how to translate what is taught in a group class to each individual situation.

With the individual classes however, we would consider how much time you have to practice, when during the day is a good time to practice, what you would find interesting, beneficial and do-able. We will devise a suitable practice for you and then teach this to you. We would then expect you to practice at home between sessions; your feedback will be the basis of how we are able to refine and develop the direction.

Individual sessions are particularly useful for those people who:

are committed to developing a personal yoga practice
have a therapeutic need they wish to address with a home practice (stress, anxiety, energetic or structural problems, breathing difficulties)
are pregnant, and would like individual advice and support
are interested to deepen and extend their practice of yoga - working with more demanding postures and techniques not usually taught in a group class (e.g. headstand, lotus posture, strong backbends, more complex breathing techniques etc)
would appreciate more detailed feedback and advice on their practice
find that committing to a regular class is very difficult
We will discuss with you your needs, interests and possibilities and from our assessment we will be able to recommend particular practices. These are then written out for you so you will be able to practice them at home.

We usually meet people monthly - and often more frequently at the beginning. This can vary of course - some may come every few months. Students will find most benefit if they commit to at least 4-6 sessions; though many of our students continue to come for many years.

Individual sessions are booked by appointment, usually take place in our house in Taunton and last between 1 and 2 hours. You need to wear loose and comfortable clothing but you do not need to bring a mat or blocks. However, it would be worth purchasing a good quality mat and block if you wish to practice at home.

Free Consultation : There is a free initial consultation to discuss any queries. This usually lasts about 30 minutes. If the student wishes to continue then sessions are priced as below

Cost : £38 for one hour; £55 for 90 minutes; £70 for 2 hours.
