Play the Recorder, Piano, Clarinet

In my lessons for Beginner Recorder, at any age , we start with learning how to hold the recorder, and how far to put it between the lips, how to articulate, and then try the first two or three notes with different rhythms, by ear. Then we move on to our first reading of music, with coloured notes to aid reading, for those who find that useful. Students can come to me at any stage of their learning , from Complete Beginner to Diploma Standard. Where possible I organise ensemble playing, and also up to THREE concerts each school year, in which all my students are encouraged to perform, in a congenial and supportive environment.
For those wishing to play clarinet, the first thing is that we have to learn how to put the clarinet together, again how far does the mouthpiece go in the mouth, what does it feel like etc. Then once the student has found their breathing muscles and has made their first real clarinet sound , then we can move on, with playing with notes and developing the embouchure and the breath support for good tone production. I play duets with my students, so that they have the opportunity to tune thmselves to someone else's sound, and this works well.
I currently offer lessons in Clarinet upto Grade 5
For beginner pianists, I usually teach from children from the age of 6-7 upwards, but currently have two pupils who started when they were 5 and are doing very nicely. Otherwise I teach upto Grade 8.

I choose repertoire that is not only appropriate to my students' standard, but also very varied, to expose my students to the enormous range of music that is around for Recorder, Piano and Clarinet

My fee for lessons at home is £36 per hour, so £18 for 30 mins and £12.50 for 20 mins. If I teach in the students' home the fee will rise to allow for petrol costs and travelling time. I am not always available to travel and the vast majority of my students come to me at home.
The first taster lesson is free though there will be a half fee payable to School of Everything.
