I've been thinking a lot about my relationship with technology lately, which is a big deal for someone in my line of work. In particular I've really been struggling to keep up with my level of incoming mail. Every day my inboxes are fuller than the day before. I hate being rude to people, and e-mail seems to be the quickest way to stack up uncompleted tasks. (And don't even get me started on Facebook.)

But I don't want to get rid of e-mail entirely because sometimes it brings me lovely things. Maybe I need to be a bit firmer with how I approach requests and worry less about not replying - but I'd really like to be able to respond promptly to everyone who's taken the time to contact me. So clearing my inbox (and generally responding to messages) is becoming one of the essential things I have to do every day to avoid getting stressed.
