Situated about 5 miles west of the county town of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, the Douglas Swire Memorial Hall, Longden, is the village hall for the villages of Longden,Hook-a-Gate, Annscroft and all nearby hamlets.
The hall is licensed for 150 people standing or 120 seated.The building is about 90 years old and is close to the spectacular Long Mynd National Trust park.
It has a large car park and sports field. There is also a dedicated play area for the younger child.
From the playing field can be seen the hills of Church Stretton to the South and the Ironbridge Gorge is visible to the East.
The building itself consists of a main hall and stage. The well equipped modern kitchen boasts two cookers, microwave, refridgerator and tea urns.
By winter 2010/11 it is hoped that full gas central heating will be installed.
On June 17th. 2010 the Deloitte Ride Across Britain in support of ParalympicsGB will be using the hall and its facilities as a "pitstop" for the 650 cyclists riding through this spectacular part of the Midlands.
Although the hall is well used throuhout the week, most Saturday and Sundays are free for hire as are a few evening and afternoons. Our charges for 2010 are £10 per hour which includes heat and light. The spectacular scernary comes free!
