London School of Samba
London School of Samba (LSS) is proud to be the godparent of Samba in the UK. Formed by a nucleus of 12 musicians in January 1984, our colours of green and white were given to us by our first Mestre de batería. This was in honour of one of the greatest Samba Schools in Rio - our patrons Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel
As a registered charity, LSS aims to function as an efficient and inspirational voluntary organisation, offering people of all abilities and backgrounds the opportunity to participate in, and develop knowledge and skills of the arts with specific focus on Brazilian Carnival.
With a rich history dating back over a quarter of a century, Carnival is an integral part of the London School of Samba’s annual calendar. We have performed at Notting Hill Carnival for 24 consecutive years and regularly parade at the Thames Festival and Coburg International Samba Festival in Germany. We are open and welcoming to all; anyone of any age, background, gender, or ability can join the school and have the opportunity to parade at Carnivals and work to perform on stage with us at our events.
