StraightCurves
StraightCurves is a small business set up in June 2013 by Karen Rogers, a fully qualified teacher. Providing a high quality creative learning environment within a designated studio in the market hall. We have a team of over 20 subcontractors/volunteers who deliver and support our arts and crafts sessions, parties and events for all ages.
We promote an inclusive, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that is clearly illustrated by our range of loyal customers. Evie, aged 8, has learnt to finger knit, make aliens, paint and more so, simply loves coming to visit us. Sam (whose age I won’t divulge) has now been on 3 courses and 10 workshops. Sam feels comfortable mixing with new people even though she suffers from MS and anxiety. Our central location and fully accessible building allows us to provide for non-drivers and those who are physically less mobile.
We stand out in today’s market due to the variety of arts and crafts we deliver. We cater to all ages and levels of ability from 3 year olds decorating cakes to the more experienced crafter who wants to extend their skills or try something different. Offering over 100 different sessions in over 25 different techniques, our sessions are affordable thus avoiding the exclusion of those with less disposable income. We run local events, social crafting, parties, 1:1 tuition, exhibitions of local artists’ work, sell local produced crafts and organise a charity-knitting group. Our social crafting events allow our learners past, present and future to keep in touch as in many cases the social side of our sessions is more important to our learners than the acquisition of new skills.
