There are so many distractions wherever we live, particularly on Valentines Day. The Craftivist Collective's Craftivism Valentines project is a friendly reminder of the difficult circumstances our global neighbours are in and the gifts are there to encourage a conversation to start even after Valentine’s Day. Each year we try and hijack valentines day and remind people to “Show some Love” for their global neighbours as well as the usual smushy stuff. We would love it if you joined in our craftivism project this year!
For the last 3 years we have had people all over the globe make as many cards as they can and leave them around their area on Valentines day. Each includes a handmade keyring designed by cult jewellers Tatty Devine. Each letter will contain an alternative valentine’s letter (see template here) and a handmade gift. Hand delivered to gaps in walls, cash machine slots, shop shelves etc- You don’t have to be in a relationship to have one of these!

London craftivists are meeting Thursday 6pm to 9pm 9th February in Fabrications open studio.
All are welcome to come for the whole time or just drop in for a cuppa tea, biscuit and to make as many as you can. It will be a friendly and fun atmosphere!

Fabrications is proud to present our first 'Craftivism' workshop hosted by founder of the 'Craftivist Collective' Sarah Corbett who is also seen as one of the leading spokespeople in the renaissance of the Craftivism movement.
Craftivism combines activism and craft and provides a creative outlet for people to express their thoughts and concerns on social injustices in a non threatening way, whilst at the same time 'Making Change' one stitch at a time through your actions!

The Craftivist Collective have successfully engaged 1000's of people around the world with their beautiful, non threatening but provocative projects such as 'Don't Blow It!' (hand embroidered letters on hankerchiefs sent to local MPs) They are passionate about engaging craftspeople and non-activists in activism through thoughtful, non threatening craft methods
"A spoonful of craft helps the activism go down"

This will be an informative, a space for discussion and skill sharing in which you will learn how Craftivism got started and insights into its benefits and how it can create change. You will also learn hands on skills in interpreting text and your design into how to cross stitch and embroidery onto mini fabric banners.

At the end of the session hang your mini protest banner out in the street!

All materials and embroidery silks will be provided and refreshments will be served!

Advance booking and payment is required to secure your place, but if there is space on the day it's fine to join at the last minute!
