We provide high quality tuition for children and adults, offering bespoke educational services, language tuition, preparation for 11 Plus English and verbal reasoning papers, ESOL and EAL services, as well as preparation for university and public examinations in French, German and Spanish. Our expressed aim is to exceed our clients' expectations and so we adopt a rigid framework for selecting and registering all of our tutors. Please click here to find out more about our tutor registration process.

Our tutorials are designed to meet the specific needs of each tutee (for more information on this primary objective, please see 'Philosophy' below). To this end, both our language tutorials and 11 Plus English and verbal reasoning tutorials include an informal assessment for each tutee at the outset. This provides focus and clarity for the tutoring process, allowing us to target specifically where each tutee needs particular support.

Our educational services are designed to help tutees take control of their learning, to facilitate and inform the UCAS application process and to provide a forum for tutees to learn or develop their language skills in French, German, Spanish, ESOL or EAL. Each tutorial is tailored the needs of each individual, providing a bespoke service to support each tutee in their endeavour to achieve their own aims and objectives.

Specifically, our educational services have five purposes:

•To support and advise tutees on how to study effectively;

•To support tutees throughout the UCAS application process;

•To prepare tutees wishing to read French, German or Spanish at Oxford or Cambridge;

•To provide French, German or Spanish tuition to adults, undergraduates, business professionals and children (4 to 11);

•To provide ESOL and EAL services for international students.

Our tutorials are intended to be fun, to inspire curiosity, to promote critical thinking and to yield measurable results. Our rigid tutor selection process is supplemented by regular Tutor Development Sessions (TDSs) which are designed to keep our tutors abreast of changes in specifications and to encourage them to share their tutoring experiences and explore best practice. blt adopts a bespoke methodology, LinguaAccelerate™, which shapes our tutors’ approach to tutoring, guides and informs their relationship with the subject matter and explores effective tutee-centred practices and techniques. Our LinguaAccelerate™ methodology is premised on 60-minute tutorials; however, longer tutorials can be made by special arrangement between tutor and tutee.

Our philosophy is predicated upon the belief that all learners are unique:

•they have unique learning needs;

•they have unique learning styles;

•they embody unique leaning experiences;

•they are motivated by unique learning outcomes.

If the learning process is unique to each individual, then the tutoring process must be unique also. In this way, we advocate that tutoring should be tailored to meet each learner’s unique learner profile. To this end, we require that our tutors be flexible and adaptable and that they plan strategically to offer each tutee multiple avenues through which they can access, understand, and apply what they learn. To achieve this, we adopt our highly-effective, tutee-centered methodology, LinguaAccelerate™.

Our LinguaAccelerate™ methodology is born out of a tutee-centred, communicative language approach. The methodology has as its primary goal the development of knowledge and skills through collaborative tasks and active learning. Emphasising inductive techniques, tutors promote interaction with the subject matter to draw conclusions that tutees make their own.

Consistent with Krashen’s model of second language acquisition (Krashen, 1982), our LinguaAccelerate™ methodology supports graded task-based learning to reduce the affective filter, and, in so doing, optimise intrinsic motivation. Activities are thus tailored to each tutee’s learner profile, differentiating by process, content and product.

The LinguaAccelerate™ methodology is premised upon a hypothesis that learning and performance are optimal when tutees are optimally aroused. To this end, tutorials engender challenge, sustain enjoyment and celebrate success. Thus tutorials are typically 60 minutes in length, providing for optimal learning, concentration and sustained attention (Elmore, 1995).

Adhering to PPP and TTT tutoring formats, the LinguaAccelerate™ methodology prioritises recycling and plenary to facilitate memory consolidation and optimise natural progression.

Teaching and Tutoring Experience

Formerly Head of the Faculty of Modern Foreign Languages at Dauntsey's School and Head of Spanish at Canford School, Aaron Neame (MBA) has had twenty-one years' experience tutoring French, German and Spanish to GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, Pre-U and IB students, as well as undergraduates from top UK universities, Common Entrance (CE) candidates, primary school children, and adults wishing to 'taste' a new language, or develop their language skills. His passion for languages is infectious and his LinguaAccelerate™ methodology is highly effective, inspiring confidence, motivation and interest, consistently achieving results which exceed expectations.

Aaron is a Specialist Examiner for CIE (Spanish and French), AQA (Spanish), Edexcel (French) and OCR (French), equipping him with unique insight into 'what examiners want'. His emphasis on language learning through meaningful communication is characteristic of 'next generation' language tutors, infusing the language learning experience with stimulating, targeted activities, tailored to each learner's needs.

His understanding of the language learning process is what differentiates him from other language tutors, and this is reflected in the outstanding results his tutees consistently achieve. He is fully conversant with the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2 in Modern Foreign Languages and Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 in French, German and Spanish. He has tutored the specifications of all the main examination boards for GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A2 Levels.

Having taught in two of the top UK Independent Schools, Dauntsey's School and Canford School, he has gained a wealth of experience advising students on their GCSE, A Level and university choices, revision planning and the UCAS application process; he has also had nine years' experience preparing tutees for the 11 Plus English and verbal reasoning papers, fifteen years' experience teaching ESOL and EAL, and has consulted on long-term career planning for students of Modern Foreign Languages. At Canford School and Dauntsey's School, he assumed responsibility for Oxbridge preparation for students of Modern Foreign Languages and for the past seven years he has developed bespoke courses for university undergraduates at Russell Group universities, supporting them throughout their four-year degree programme.

Aaron's love of French, German and Spanish culture is equalled only by his love of teaching and tutoring; he is an expert in French, German and Spanish literature, an experienced language teacher trainer and an avid lecturer in the language learning process.

Online teaching offered

Provision of exercise books, text books, pens and other stationery are the responsibility of the tutee. Tutors will advise tutees on any specific requirements.

It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that an appropriate adult is on premises throughout all tutorials (where applicable).

In case of tutee illness, or absence for any other reason, the client should contact the tutor directly. A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required. Where 24 hours' notice has not been given and if the tutorial cannot be rearranged for another time that is convenient both for the tutee and tutor, the client will be charged pro rata at the usual 45-minute rate. This will be added to usual charges at the next tutorial.

Should a tutor not be able to attend a tutorial, blt aims to replace that tutor in order to avoid disruption. Alternatively, the tutorial may be rearranged with the regular tutor at the client’s request.

Please give at least one week's notice to your tutor and to blt by email or by phone before bringing regular tutorials to an end.

Tutees are required to pay their tutor directly, either at the beginning or at the end of their tutorial. Tutees are welcome to pay for tutorials up to four weeks in advance; in which case they are provided with a receipt confirming how many tutorials they are entitled to. In such instances, tutors will also provide tutees with the dates and times of their tutorials, at the tutee’s request.
