Experience

My experience

After completing my health and fitness diploma I applied for a job as a gym instructor. Part of my interview was to demonstrate stretches with teaching points and how to use free weights and specific exercises using these on certain muscle groups. Thankfully I got the job, my knowledge grew straight away, from helping clients on CV equipment to instructing clients on how to use resistance equipment.Let's not forget the inductions on all the equipment.

After 6 months in the job I got promoted to assistant health and fitness manager. I also gained my personal training diploma so I then built up a clientèle list after my shift and it went on from there.

I then helped run the 6 weeks Nautilus weight management course, this is where we would carry out a fitness test on clients who have signed up for it. We would go through their food and exercise diaries and mentor as well as advise them on how to achieve their goals. This was so successful, I then ran another with one of my colleagues.

I also went on the first body pump training course in 1999 and taught the first load of classes. I also got to teach aerobics but got the urge to teach dance instead so then adapted it into street dance!

Since leaving the gym some time ago I haven't looked back, I'm always updating my skills and jumping onto another workshop especially if it's going to help me and my clients who need that advice.

In the 00's I took up salsa classes for a few years then dropped off due to work commitments, however it wasn't until a few years later my sis and I met the 'late' Maria Garcia, she was amazing! I soon got back into Salsa, Bachata, Meringue etc and moved from beginners to beginners+ and advanced level!

I teach my Zumba fitness classes and look after my p.f.t clients while writing for local and on-line magazines as well as running the business with my twin sister!

I will keep helping others where I can!
