Barley Massey
I'm an experienced, multi talented teacher! I draw on my experiences as a designer maker,running my own business for over 12 years, working day to day in my shop/venue 'Fabrications'in Hackney and my DIY lifestyle. My aim is to pass on traditional textile skills, a sustainable approach and give people of all ages, abilities and walks of life the confidence and enjoyment in tapping into their own personal creativity and ideas.

Introduction to weaving
A taster session in which you try out and create 3 samples using different methods of weaving.
Flat board weaving using strips of upcycled materials, ribbons etc, a technique developped by Barley in her design work. Peg loom weaving on 'Wool-n-Dance' peg looms - a low tech, quick thread up method and finally have a go on Barley's antique floor peddled loom.
This will be an action packed and experimental session. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring along personal old clothes, textiles, yarns and haberdashery you may want to create with.
Refreshments will also be provided.

Learn the basics and get started! Cast on, knit + purl stitch, adding a new colour and casting off. I tailor the class according to the participants and guide you at your pace, so if you want to learn more than what is listed you can!
A starter paxck will also be provided which includes knitting needles, wool and a step by step booklet to refer back to at home. Refreshments will also be served!

Another chance to go through your wardrobe and select items that you'd like to alter or transform in some way! Whether it's taking up a hem, taking in seams, simple re tailoring, putting in a new zip, Barley will tailor the class according to what you bring and what you'd like to do!
additional materials will be available and the use of sewing machines. Refreshments will also be served!

An opportunity to go through your wardrobe and drawers and pull out items of clothing that may be in need of some love and attention! Bring them along and learn simple darning, patching and mending techniques. subtle mends or show off mends! Breathe new life into what you have and revive those favorite garments!
One of Barley's darning kit bags containing a darning mushroom, instructions, needles, mending wool are also included as part of the class and yors to keep!

Learn how to make your own chunky yarns from old clothing and multi plying odd balls and yarns. Then there will be opportunity to create your own scarf or a series of samples on GIANT knitting needles, French knitting wheels or circular needles.
You need to know how to cast on, knit stitch and cast off to make the most of this session.
This is a creative and experimental session, all materials are provided and refreshments will also be served!
