A confident individual with a wealth of experience of working in both learner support and tutor roles within a community setting, I demonstrate good communication and active listening skills to build rapport with a diverse range of individuals.

I like to help others and pass on my knowledge, I find this fulfilling and I enjoy communicating with different people and supporting them in achieving their objectives.

I regularly support a group of learners with I.T. at two different community venues; I have planned and delivered my own sessions with up to ten learners from all backgrounds, ethnicity and ages, delivering courses for complete beginners to intermediate to more advanced learners using word and PowerPoint and the internet and also taught one to one for an hour per person with people from the whole community.

I have helped to facilitate a readers group with Kirklees College which involved improving the learners reading and literacy, also encouraging ideas about topics to write about on paper and computer and conversations about many topics such as travel and holiday experiences.

Adult learner support C&G taught me about different learning styles and learning barriers and I find this useful when teaching.

During my attendance on the adult learner support course this included work placements for each module i.e. literacy, English for foreign learners and numeracy where I helped the learners prepare for exams and assisted the tutors.

My experience also includes helping to facilitate employability workshops, including interview and C.V. preparation with an agency to which I am also a community champion, and this gave me the opportunity to gain information qualifications to build on my knowledge.

I have extended this by becoming a community mentor and gaining a qualification in this. My experience has also included facilitating a play in a school, which meant rehearsal and learning lines and discussions with other group members over two weeks. I have delivered many presentations before with different organisations but I found this project stretched my presentation skills by interacting with the audience and being more expressive.

The higher level general teaching qualifications I have acquired have helped me to develop as a Tutor and I find the practical and theoretical sides of the course both very useful. My main experience is within the community sector where I enjoy working with a diverse range of individuals and the friendliness of a small group.

I would enjoy employment in learner support or tutor roles and welcome contact from community organisations.
