Celia Andrews
I'm Celia Andrews and I am an experienced Speech and Drama teacher, and also assist with public speaking, particularly in regards to wedding speeches. I teach children in either a small group setting or via one-to-one tuition, and I teach adults on a one-to-one basis.
I trained at GSA as a teacher of Drama, Dance, and Singing and have now been teaching successfully for over forty years. I have also gained LAMDA Licentiateships in Teaching and Acting.
I currently teach Speech and Drama to children aged 7-18. Classes can be taught in small groups (up to 6 per class) according to age or on a one-to-one basis. The focus is on developing the individual through the use of drama, such as short improvisations and working on scripted scenes together in an informal setting, and through developing a strong and clear voice that can propel them through life. Whether your child has a diagnosed speech impediment, or simply struggles to make themselves understood, I can help them develop their vocal technique through a focus on articulation, projection, intonation, pitch, pace, and pause, which can assist them in a theatrical setting and in wider life.
In addition, children are able to take LAMDA examinations annually (last year our pass rate was 100%, with 77% achieving distinction, and 23% achieving merit) in either Verse and Prose, Spoken English, Public Speaking, Reading for Performance, Acting, Mime, or Devised Performance. These exams use what the child learns throughout the year whilst giving them a qualification which can enhance University applications.
Classes are also available to adults on a one-to-one basis and are tailored to the individual. I provide vocal training, from establishing correct breathing and vocal techniques, which can be tailored to aid a diagnosed speech impediment, or help improve a recognised difficulty with speaking, such as having a shaky voice. I am also capable of providing accent reduction services when requested.
In addition, I provide help with public speaking, interview technique, acting, and audition coaching.
I also work specifically to help an individual prepare and perform a wedding speech. I can help you develop your presentation skills, so that when you give a wedding speech, your voice remains strong, clear, expressive and projected. I'll work on helping you to reduce tension and develop poise. In addition, I can also provide help with crafting the perfect wedding speech.
